Bartholomew Scott Blair (played by Sean Connery), referred to as "Barley" in the film, is the head of a British publishing company. During a trip to Moscow, in which he gives a presentation, he crosses paths with a man by the name of Dante. Impressed by Barley's speech, Dante exchanges a secret with Mr. Blair: he possesses documentation on the Soviet Union's nuclear arms. It's only a matter of time before Barley finds himself caught between the cross hairs of the Cold War. United States and British intelligence agencies interrogate Bartholomew for information regarding this alleged manuscript, and later involve him in the process of obtaining this potentially beneficial information. Betwixt the espionage, reconnaissance, and stratagem that entail Barley's mission; he finds himself falling for the beautiful Katya Orlova, a Soviet who seems well-informed on Dante. A thrilling spy drama that deals with uncertainty, Cold War tactics, and romance finds itself revolving around one important factor: the legitimacy of these nuclear secrets.
