The Search for Santa Paws is a children’s direct-to-DVD film. The Search for Santa Paws is the tenth installment in the Air Bud series and the prequel to the film, Santa Buddies. The Search for Santa Paws was released by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment in 2010. Richard Riehle plays Santa Claus, who is hit by a taxicab in New York City and suffers from amnesia as a result of the accident. The magic crystal that allows him to live forever disappears, and he needs his puppy, Paws, voiced by Zachary Gordon, to rescue him. At the same time, an orphaned child named Quinn, played by Kaitlyn Maher, goes to live in a girls’ foster home run by a cold-hearted woman named Ms. Stout, played by Wendi McLendon-Covey. Ms. Stout does not allow pets or Christmas decorations in the foster home, and burns all of the children’s toys in a furnace. Quinn has no choice but to abide by Ms. Stout’s rules so long as she lives in the home, and comes to make friends with the other girls, including Willamina, played by Madison Pettis, and Janie, played by Genevieve Hannelius. In an effort to save Christmas, Santa’s head elf, Eli, played by Danny Woodburn, and Eddy the elf dog need to travel to New York City to rescue Santa and Paws. When Santa (Bud) is recovering in the hospital, Quinn and Willamina step up to help. Kate and James Hucklebuckle take Bud from the hospital, and Paws has Eli place his crystal near Santa. Santa awakens to discover that Paws is suddenly a stuffed animal. He and the others race back to the North Pole, where Paws grows into an adult dog named Santa Paws, and Christmas is saved. Ms. Stout is released from her duties as head of the foster home. James and Kate Hucklebuckle adopt Quinn and Willamina. The Search for Santa Paws was directed and produced by Robert Vince. The 89-minute film was released in the United States and Canada.
