The Women is a movie starring an impressive cast of well known actresses. The story centers around the lives of four women who have been friends for many years. Each woman has her own story which revolves around her relationships, her career and her personal struggles. The center plot involves the life of Mary, played by Meg Ryan. Mary is a successful fashion designer married to an equally successful financial planner. They have a daughter and live in an upscale area of town with all of the luxuries their lifestyle affords. Through a series of unexpected events, Mary discovers her husband is having an affair with one of the sales girls in a store she frequents. Mary learns this information from her best friend Sylvie, who had gone to the nail salon within the store where the manicurist inadvertently divulged the information without knowing it would get back to Mary. Mary exerts her strong side by going to the department to confront the girl herself. She also receives support from all of her friends in her choice to file for a divorce. The lives of Mary's friends are also woven into the storyline of the movie to add interest and additional conflict. Edie, played by Debra Messing, is expecting a new baby when Mary goes through all of her struggles. As the story draws to a conclusion, Mary's husband ends the affair he has with the sales girl and wants to make an effort to reclaim his marriage. Edie goes into labor and has her new baby, while Mary's best friend Sylvie, played by Annette Bening, gets her new magazine off the ground. Mary ends up having a fashion show for her new line which is extremely successful as well. The movie also stars Jada Pinkett Smith, Eva Mendes, Cloris Leachman and Candice Bergen as Mary's mother.
