In the movie Transcendence, Doctor Will Castor (Johnny Depp), is the renowned expert in the field of Artificial Intelligence. Will’s goal was to create a sentient machine to collect data of human emotions, thought processes and to create a human consciousness. The machine was originally only tested on monkeys with human testing remaining undiscovered territory. However, after Will suddenly falls ill, his research partner and wife, Evelyn (Rebecca Hall), decides to save Will’s consciousness by using the machine. By collecting data to create Artificial Intelligence, Will and his team become targets of an anti-technology militant group who wants to destroy the machine and the research team participants. The anti-technology group believes that Will’s insatiable appetite for knowledge lends itself to a dangerous area of having access to too much information. The transcendence process allows a human being’s consciousness and mind to upload to the internet and access even the most sensitive of personal information. Evelyn and Dr. Will’s best friend, Max Waters (Paul Bettany), also a research team member, must decide if they will allow Will to become the ultimate participant of his own technology. Their biggest fear: once Will is Transcended, where does it end?
