Liz Lemon finds herself in a challenging position when Don Geiss, the CEO of NBC's parent company, falls into a diabetic coma during a meeting. As the company scrambles to determine the future of its leadership, Liz finds herself in the running to take over Geiss's position. However, she soon learns that she's not the only contender for the job, and that her competition includes her nemesis Devon Banks, as well as Jack Donaghy. Meanwhile, Tracy Jordan attempts to apologize to the gay community for a tasteless joke he made on an episode of TGS, and Jenna Maroney struggles to come to terms with the fact that she's now over 40. As Liz's anxiety mounts over her potential promotion and her uncertain future, she turns to Jack for guidance and support, only to find that he has his own agenda for the future of the company.
