In "Floyd," the sixteenth episode of the fourth season of the NBC comedy 30 Rock, Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) tries to make her long distance relationship with Floyd (Jason Sudeikis) work. As Floyd is preparing to visit her in New York, Liz's colleague Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan) urges her to break up with him. Meanwhile, Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) tries to find a way to fire an underperforming employee, and Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski) develops a crush on a member of the crew.

The episode begins with Liz on the phone with Floyd, who is in Cleveland. They discuss their upcoming visit, with Floyd having booked a hotel room and Liz planning to show him around New York. Liz is excited but nervous about the visit, confiding in her assistant Cerie (Katrina Bowden) that she's worried Floyd won't like New York and that their relationship won't work out. Tracy overhears her and tells her that she should break up with Floyd before he comes to New York, as long distance relationships never work out.

Meanwhile, at NBC, Jack is trying to find a way to fire an employee named Jeffrey (John Lutz), who is consistently underperforming. However, Jeffrey is related to a powerful executive at the network, making him difficult to fire. Jack tries to get creative, first offering him a buyout package and then attempting to transfer him to a different department. However, when these plans fall through, Jack decides to take drastic measures and try to catch Jeffrey in the act of doing something wrong.

Back at 30 Rock, Jenna develops a crush on a member of the crew named Greta (Julia Lea Wolov), whom she believes is a lesbian. She asks Tracy for advice on how to approach her, but he tells her that Greta is actually married to a man. This doesn't deter Jenna, who continues to make advances towards Greta. Greta becomes uncomfortable and asks Liz to intervene on her behalf.

As Liz is dealing with both her own relationship and her colleagues' problems, Floyd arrives in New York. Liz is thrilled to see him but becomes nervous when it becomes clear that he doesn't like the same things about New York that she does. They go to a baseball game, but Floyd is bored and uncomfortable. Liz tries to salvage the date by taking him to her favorite Chinese restaurant, but it turns out that Floyd doesn't like Chinese food. Eventually, Liz becomes frustrated and tells Floyd that he's not trying hard enough to like New York.

The next day, Liz tries to make it up to Floyd by taking him on a tour of the city. However, when they get into an argument about whether or not to visit the Empire State Building, Floyd reveals that he's been feeling pressure from Liz to like New York and that he's not sure if their relationship can work if they're always fighting. Liz is devastated and realizes that Tracy was right all along.

Meanwhile, Jack's plan to catch Jeffrey in the act backfires as he accidentally accuses two different employees of being Jeffrey and ends up firing the wrong person. He eventually returns to his office, defeated.

As the episode comes to a close, Liz sits alone in a park, drinking a bottle of wine. Floyd comes to find her and they have a heart-to-heart conversation in which they both admit that they're not sure if their relationship can work. However, they agree to give it another shot and decide to focus on enjoying their time together in the present. The episode ends with them kissing in the park, as the camera pans out to show the bustling city around them.
