In Adventure Time with Finn and Jake season 4 episode 16, titled "B-Mo Noire," we follow the lovable and quirky robot BMO as he tries his hand at being a detective in a film-noir-inspired adventure.

The episode begins with BMO receiving a VHS tape from a mysterious sender, which turns out to be a detective movie called "BMO Noire." As he starts to watch it, he becomes so engrossed in the story that he starts to believe that he himself is a detective. He even dresses up in a trench coat and fedora to get into the role.

BMO's first case is to investigate the disappearance of Jake's sandwich, and he immediately starts to interview all of the suspects. He interrogates Jake, Finn, Princess Bubblegum, and Marceline, but nobody seems to have any information about the missing sandwich. However, as BMO continues to investigate, he realizes that there's more to the case than just a missing sandwich.

As he delves deeper into the mystery, BMO starts to suspect foul play and begins to unravel a web of lies and deceit. He manages to piece together clues from different sources and even manages to obtain some incriminating evidence. But before he can solve the case, BMO finds himself in trouble and must rely on Jake and Finn to save him.

Throughout the episode, the animation style and storyline borrow heavily from the film-noir genre. The art is dark and shaded, with a lot of shadows and chiaroscuro lighting. The characters are all dressed in period-appropriate clothing, and the dialogue is full of classic noir clichés and metaphors.

In addition to the nods to the film-noir genre, "B-Mo Noire" also has a few clever references to other pop-culture phenomena. For example, when BMO is trying to track down a lead, he uses a computer that looks suspiciously like an Apple IIe. And when BMO confronts the main suspect, he does so in a scene that pays homage to the classic "I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me!" scene from Watchmen.

Overall, "B-Mo Noire" is a fun and inventive episode of Adventure Time that showcases the show's trademark weirdness and creativity. It's a great example of how the show can take a conventional format, in this case a detective story, and turn it on its head to create something entirely new and unexpected.
