Animal Precinct Season 1 Episode 3 One Camper Van, Seventeen Animals

  • July 4, 2001

One Camper Van, Seventeen Animals is an episode from the first season of Animal Precinct, a television show that follows the daily work of the agents from the ASPCA's Humane Law Enforcement Division in New York City. In this episode, viewers get to see how the agents deal with one of the most challenging cases they have ever faced.

The episode starts with the agents receiving a tip from a concerned citizen who reports seeing a man living in a camper van parked on Staten Island with several animals. Upon arrival, the agents find the camper van and quickly realize that the situation is much worse than they anticipated.

The man who owns the camper van has 17 animals living with him. There are five dogs, five parrots, four rabbits, two cats, and a tortoise. All the animals are in poor condition, with no access to clean water or food. The dogs are covered in fleas and are suffering from skin infections, while the parrots are living in tiny cages that are too small for them to move around. The rabbits are kept in dirty cages with no signs of food or water, and the cats are hiding under piles of garbage.

The agents quickly realize that they have their work cut out for them as they start to investigate the situation. The owner of the animals is hostile and refuses to cooperate, making it difficult for the agents to assess the situation. The agents spend hours trying to gain his trust, but they get nowhere. They eventually obtain a warrant and start the process of removing the animals from the camper van.

The removal process is complicated. The animals are living in such cramped and filthy conditions that it takes the agents several hours to remove them all. The cats are hiding under piles of garbage and have to be coaxed out with food. The parrots are in tiny cages that have to be dismantled, and the rabbits are so scared that they have to be transported in carriers. The dogs are the easiest to remove, but even they are in poor shape, with several of them needing immediate medical attention.

Once all the animals are removed from the camper van, they are transported to the ASPCA, where they are given medical care and grooming. The dogs are all given baths and treated for fleas and skin conditions, while the parrots are given new, larger cages to live in. The rabbits are given fresh hay and water, and the cats are given their own room to hide in and recover from their ordeal.

The owner of the animals is arrested and charged with animal cruelty. He is eventually sentenced to community service and is banned from owning animals for the rest of his life. The agents from the ASPCA are left to pick up the pieces and find new homes for the animals they rescued. It's a long and often difficult process, but in the end, it's worth it knowing that these animals are safe and no longer suffering.

One Camper Van, Seventeen Animals is a heart-wrenching but ultimately uplifting episode that showcases the hard work and dedication of the agents from the ASPCA's Humane Law Enforcement Division. Viewers are given a glimpse into the often-hidden world of animal cruelty and are reminded of the importance of reporting suspected cases of animal abuse.
