Animal Precinct Season 2 Episode 11 Dangerous Dog
- January 27, 2003
Animal Precinct is a reality television series following the work of the ASPCA's Humane Law Enforcement division in New York City. In season 2 episode 11, titled "Dangerous Dog," the officers of the Animal Precinct receive a call about a dangerous dog on the loose in the city.
The episode begins with Officer Anthony Almestica responding to the call of a pit bull running loose in the Bronx. The dog, named Hercules, is known to be aggressive and has already attacked multiple people. Officer Almestica and his partner rush to the scene, but the dog is nowhere to be found. They speak to local residents who claim to have seen the dog earlier, but no one has seen it recently. The officers must be vigilant and keep a sharp eye out for the dog, knowing that it could attack at any moment.
Meanwhile, Officer Robin Johnson is called to a case involving a dog that has been tied up outside without food, water, or shelter in freezing temperatures. When she arrives, she finds a small terrier mix shivering in the cold. She takes the dog into custody and transports it back to the ASPCA, where it is given food and a warm bed to sleep in. Officer Johnson tracks down the owner of the dog, who claims that it was a mistake and that he had simply forgotten to bring the dog inside. He is issued a warning and informed that he will be fined if he is found to be neglecting his dog in the future.
Back in the Bronx, Officer Almestica receives another call about Hercules. This time, the dog has attacked a woman and her dog in a park. Almestica rushes to the scene and finds the woman bleeding from her arm. Her dog is injured as well, and the officers call in a mobile veterinary unit to treat the animal on the spot. They manage to capture Hercules, but the dog is uncooperative and aggressive. The officers must use a pole to keep the dog at bay while they transport it back to the ASPCA.
Once at the ASPCA, the officers begin the difficult process of evaluating Hercules and determining whether he is safe to return to his owner or if he must be put down. They cannot risk the dog attacking someone else in the future, but they also do not want to put down an animal unless absolutely necessary. The officers consult with a veterinarian and a behaviorist to assess the dog's temperament and determine whether it is possible to rehabilitate it. They work with Hercules for several days, trying to get him to relax and trust them. Eventually, they are able to determine that the dog is not beyond hope and can be rehabilitated with the proper training and care.
The episode ends with Hercules being transferred to a rehabilitation center in upstate New York. The officers are relieved that they were able to save the dog's life and give it a second chance, but they know that their work is far from over. They will continue to patrol the streets of New York and respond to calls about dangerous animals, doing their best to protect the city's residents and the animals themselves.
