Animal Precinct Season 2 Episode 9 Dangerous Diet

  • January 13, 2003

Animal Precinct is an American documentary television series that takes an inside look at the efforts of the New York City Police Department to investigate and prevent instances of animal cruelty. In season 2 episode 9, titled "Dangerous Diet," viewers are introduced to the heartbreaking case of a severely malnourished dog named Princess. The episode begins with the officers of the Animal Cruelty Investigation Squad receiving a call from concerned neighbors who had noticed that Princess, a dog who lived in a nearby apartment, was wasting away to almost nothing. The team arrives at the scene and is greeted by Princess’ owner, who assures them that the dog is in good health. However, when they examine Princess, they find that she is nothing but skin and bones and appears to be near death.

In order to take Princess into custody legally, the officers must obtain a warrant from a judge, which can take time. In the meantime, they bring in veterinarians to assess Princess’ condition and provide her with immediate medical attention. The vets determine that Princess is suffering from a severe case of starvation and dehydration and requires emergency treatment. They also discover that Princess is suffering from multiple other ailments, including a severe case of emaciation, ear infections, and open sores on her body.

The team works tirelessly to save Princess' life, constantly monitoring her vitals and administering medication to help stabilize her condition. Princess is kept in the care of the ASPCA’s Animal Hospital while the investigation into her abuse continues.

As the investigation progresses, the officers uncover evidence that suggests that Princess' owner was intentionally withholding food from her as a form of punishment. The officers learn that Princess had been living in squalid conditions, with no access to clean water or food. The woman had been using food as a type of punishment for poor behavior, making Princess’ diet one of the most dangerous, as it was revolved around her behavior instead of nutritional requirements.

Once the officers gather enough evidence, they obtain a warrant for Princess’ owner’s arrest and take her into custody. The woman is charged with animal cruelty, and the case against her is taken to court.

Throughout the episode, viewers are able to see the day-to-day activities of the Animal Cruelty Investigation Squad, as well as the work of the veterinarians and staff at the ASPCA’s Animal Hospital. The show also highlights the ongoing efforts of the NYPD to prevent and investigate instances of animal abuse, and the challenges they face in bringing perpetrators to justice.

The episode ends with a positive update on Princess’ condition. After receiving treatment at the ASPCA’s Animal Hospital, she is placed in the care of a loving foster family, who works tirelessly to nurse her back to health. While Princess’ story is a sad one, her triumphant return to health and the efforts of the Animal Cruelty Investigation Squad and ASPCA staff remind viewers that there is hope in the fight against animal cruelty.

Overall, "Dangerous Diet" highlights the heartbreaking reality of animal cruelty, while also showing the dedication and hard work of those fighting to stop it and save the lives of innocent animals.
