Ep 3. South American Reality Check

Eager to continue his round-the-world trip without spending a penny, Alex Boylan hitches a ride from Punta Arenas, Chile to Puerto Natales, a town near the southern tip of the country. Road-tripping with a relatively new acquaintance, a dental student, Alex experiences the true Chilean backcountry, including Skorpios, one of the world’s most stunning scenic routes off the beaten path.

More adventures await Alex in the form of paragliding over the Andes Mountains, where he meets some of Chile’s youngest explorers and experiences what a low-altitude ejection is like. Following a transient experience writing for a local newspaper, My Lago Del Desierto, Alex gains a better understanding of Chile's reputation for being a difficult place to start a business.

But it just gets harder from there: Alex crosses the Andes Mountains range by horse to Argentina, where he enters a reality TV show called "Cuestion de Peso" (It's a Matter of Weight), competing against fat people in an attempt to win his own TV show. Only time will tell whether his determination and resourcefulness are up to the challenge, particularly when it comes to mastering the ‘fat suit’ that he’ll have to wear during many of the show’s challenges.

Alex also makes a pilgrimage to the alluring city of Buenos Aires and enjoys the local Argentinian cuisine, as well as taking a closer look at the country's notorious security situations, including an interview with some high-level law enforcement officials.

Throughout the episode, Alex's passion, resourcefulness, and personable nature are on full display, fully immersed in the beauty, culture, and challenges of South America.
