Ep 6. Share Bear
- October 27, 1997
In this episode of Bear in the Big Blue House, titled "Share Bear," Bear's friend, Luna, the moon, teaches him about the importance of sharing with friends.
The episode starts with Bear sitting in his big blue house, when he realizes that he's forgotten to prepare snacks for his friends, who are due to arrive for a picnic. He quickly scrambles to put together some sandwiches and fruit, and his friends arrive soon after. Tutter, the mouse, Pip and Pop, the otters, Treelo, the lemur, and Ojo, the bear cub, all join in the fun as they eat and play games.
The group decides to play a game of catch with a ball, but Treelo accidentally throws it too hard and it lands in a nearby tree. Ojo volunteers to climb the tree to get it, but Bear cautions her against it as it might be dangerous. Luna then appears in the sky and suggests that they share the ball, taking turns to throw and catch it.
Bear is hesitant at first, not wanting to give up his turn, but Luna explains that sharing is important and it's a trait that makes friends happy. She even sings a song titled "Sharing with Friends" to emphasize the point. Bear eventually relents, and the friends start taking turns with the ball.
As they continue playing, they notice that Tutter is feeling left out as he's not very good at catching the ball. They decide to include him by creating a new game in which Tutter can participate – they call it "Tuttle Tag." In this game, Tutter has to catch his friends and tag them back to become it.
The game proves to be fun for everyone, but Tutter soon gets tired and wants to rest. Bear suggests that they have a snack break, and everyone agrees. As they sit down, Ojo admits that she wants to keep the ball for herself and doesn't want to share it with the others anymore.
Bear sees an opportunity to teach Ojo about the importance of sharing and tells her a story about three bears who wanted to build a house together. The first bear was selfish and didn't want to share his resources, while the other two bears were willing to share everything they had. In the end, the selfish bear's house collapsed, while the other two bears' house remained standing strong. This story makes Ojo realize the value of sharing and she agrees to continue taking turns with the ball.
The episode ends with Bear and his friends enjoying each other's company, playing games and sharing snacks. Luna looks on from the sky, pleased with the friends' new understanding of sharing.
"Share Bear" is a heartwarming episode that emphasizes the importance of sharing with friends. With Luna's guidance, Bear teaches the value of sharing, and his friends learn to include everyone and make sure everyone feels included in activities. Through fun and games, the friends experience the joy that comes from sharing and become closer as a group. The episode is a great reminder for kids and adults alike that sharing is an essential trait for building strong and lasting friendships.
