Being Human is an American supernatural drama series, airing on Syfy channel, that follows a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost, who all share a house in Boston while they try to live everyday life while keeping their supernatural identities hidden from the rest of the world.

“There Goes the Neighborhood Part 1” is the first episode of the show's first season. It introduces us to the three main characters of the show - Aidan, a vampire, Josh, a werewolf, and Sally, a ghost – as they move into an old Victorian house together in Boston. The episode starts off with Aidan, who has just returned to Boston after over 200 years of being dead. He is desperately trying to reform his life as a nurse at the local hospital, but finds himself struggling to resist his vampire urges. We see him resisting the urge to feed on a patient, while attempting to suck on a blood bag to quench his thirst.

In a chance encounter, Aidan meets Josh, who’s a cleaner at the same hospital where Aidan works. Josh is a nice guy but filled with angst as he’s dealing with his own curse of being a werewolf. He hasn’t had any control over his condition, and his transformation wreaks havoc every full moon. He currently lives with his girlfriend, Julia, but the arrangement is causing turmoil in his life. He’s trying to make a clean break from his life with her, but he can't seem to bring himself to do it.

In another part of the city, Sally is experiencing life as a ghost. She has been stuck in the house where she died and is trying to find a way to move on and start a new life. In addition, we also learn in flashbacks how she died and the circumstances leading up to her death.

As the three are all struggling with their respective supernatural identities, they soon realize they have a lot in common when it comes to hiding from society. They all find comfort in each other, and as they continue to bond, they quickly realize that their supernatural fronts are not going to be easy to keep up. The three must work together to figure out how to share their house and continue living normal lives while at the same time trying to keep each other's supernatural identities a secret. And as they adjust to their new living arrangements, they soon discover that their supernatural problems are nothing when compared to the real-life problems of working, getting along with roommates, and maintaining relationships.

Throughout the 44-minute episode, the three are tried and tested and eventually have to deal with the consequences of their new found closeness. They come face-to-face with the reality of being supernatural beings and how little control they have over their powers. At the same time, they each hang on to the hope that their past mistakes can be forgiven and they can live as close to a normal life as possible without affecting those they care for.

The episode concludes with the three holding their breath at the arrival of a suspicious police officer and with Aidan struggling as he helps a patient with an emergency with his vampire reflexes rearing their ugly head.

In summary, “There Goes the Neighborhood Part 1” is the perfect introduction to the series, setting up the characters' motivations in a realistic, grounded way. It gives us a sense of each character’s internal struggles while at the same time creating a fun and engaging dynamic between them. The episode builds the foundation of the series, introducing the rules of would-be human-like creatures living as such in society, making this show enjoyable for anyone who loves supernatural drama with a sprinkle of action, romance and horror.
