Ep 2. The Chris Rock Test

In Billions season 5 episode 2, titled The Chris Rock Test, Axe and Chuck are both trying to expand their financial empires in new, risky ways. Axe is working to break into a field of business that he's never touched before: health food. He's looking to leverage himself into a market that he believes is ripe for disruption. He enlists the help of a former ally to try to find out what Jock's endgame is - but he's playing a dangerous game, and he's not sure if he can win.

Meanwhile, Axe is trying to figure out how he can beat his competitors and make a name for himself in the health food market. He enlists the help of his team to try to come up with some new ideas, but they're all struggling to find the right angle. That's when Axe comes up with a bold plan: he's going to do the Chris Rock test.

The Chris Rock test, as Axe explains it, is a way to find out if a new product is really worth investing in. It's based on a joke that Chris Rock made in one of his stand-up routines - essentially, the idea is to imagine that a new product has been announced on the news, and to think about how people will react to it. If the first thought that comes to mind when you imagine the product is a positive one - if you can hear a voice in your head saying "I want that" - then it's worth investing in. If the response is less enthusiastic, then it's probably not worth pursuing.

Axe's team is initially skeptical of the Chris Rock test, but they decide to give it a try. They come up with a new product - a health food that's designed to be easy and convenient for office workers to eat on the go - and they ask people on the street what they think of it. The response is mixed at first, but as Axe's team tweaks the product and gets more feedback, they start to see some positive responses.
