Boss season 1 episode 2 titled "Reflex" brings to light the complexities of power struggles within Mayor Tom Kane's administration. Her ambition brings forth a conflict between her and Kane when she undermines his authority in front of his team.

In the meantime, Kane's estranged wife, Meredith (played by Connie Nielsen), is making attempts to get back into his life. Their relationship is complicated, and she is struggling to understand Kane's behavior and his recent health concerns. Her efforts to reconnect with him bring forth a series of emotional moments in the episode.

The episode also touches upon Kane's relationship with his daughter, Emma (played by Hannah Ware). Her troubles with substance abuse are affecting her job, and she is struggling to find a place in her father's administration. The two share a complex and strained relationship, and we see glimpses of their past that provide a deeper insight into their dynamic.
