Ep 8. House-Sitting

Abby and Ilana's journey through their adult lives continues in the eighth episode of the fourth season of Broad City, titled "House-Sitting". The premise of the episode centres around the girls house-sitting for an acquaintance, and the misadventures that ensue.

As the episode begins, Abby and Ilana are lounging on a couch in their usual spot - the apartment of their friend, Jaime. It's here that they discover that he will be leaving town for a period of time and needs someone to keep watch over his beautiful, modern apartment in Manhattan. Of course, the girls jump at the opportunity, eager to spend a few days living in luxury. However, as they soon discover, house-sitting is not as easy as it sounds.

From the moment they step into Jaime's apartment, the girls are in awe of its beauty. As they walk through the large, open-plan living area, they admire the sleek furniture, the wall of windows that looks out onto the city, and the pristine white kitchen with its high-quality appliances. But as they begin to explore the rest of the apartment, they discover the many quirks that come with it. For one thing, the toilet in the bathroom is incredibly loud, requiring one of the girls to stand outside and make noise to cover it up. And then there's the fact that the shower has a glass wall that looks out onto the bedroom, a design choice that leaves Ilana feeling quite exposed.

Despite these initial hiccups, the girls soon settle into their new home and embark on a series of adventures. First up is a photo shoot that they've scheduled for Abby's clothing line. As they try to capture the perfect image, they are interrupted by a series of mishaps, including a deliveryman who shows up unannounced and starts making himself at home. Next up, the girls decide to make use of Jaime's fancy grill and have a barbecue with their friends. This leads to some hilarious moments, as Ilana and her friend Stacey engage in a heated debate about the different types of charcoal, while Abby struggles to light the grill in the first place.

Throughout all of these misadventures, Abby and Ilana remain true to themselves, never taking things too seriously and always managing to find the humour in even the most frustrating situations. This is perhaps best exemplified by a scene in which they attempt to set up a projector to watch a movie. After many failed attempts and a lot of yelling, they finally manage to get it working, only to discover that the movie is in Japanese with no subtitles. Undeterred, they decide to watch it anyway, enjoying the wild visuals and the sheer absurdity of the situation.

Overall, "House-Sitting" is a classic Broad City episode, full of the show's trademark raunchy humour, witty banter, and absurd situations. As always, Abby and Ilana are the heart and soul of the show, with their dynamic friendship providing the backbone to the episode's many hijinks. Whether you're a longtime fan of the show or a newcomer looking for a good laugh, "House-Sitting" is well worth your time.
