Ep 5. Artsy Fartsy

In "Artsy Fartsy," the fifth episode of the final season of Broad City, Ilana Wexler (Ilana Glazer) decides to take on the art world. She becomes obsessed with a contemporary artist named Chloe Francis Wallace (played by guest star Alia Shawkat). Ilana becomes determined to meet Chloe, and when she finally does, they hit it off instantly.

Ilana is invited to Chloe's studio, where she sees some of her latest works, including a sculpture of a giant syringe made out of toothpaste. Ilana convinces Chloe to let her curate a show of her work at a trendy downtown gallery. Meanwhile, Abbi Abrams (Abbi Jacobson) is in full-on cleaning mode since her apartment is being filmed for a local news segment. She enlists the help of Trey (Paul W. Downs) to help her deep clean, and they end up bonding over their shared love for musicals.

Back in the art world, Ilana is struggling to get Chloe's work recognized by the gallery owner, Lainey (Amy Ryan). Lainey is dismissive of Chloe's work, calling it "too out there" and "not commercially viable." Ilana, who has never been one to back down from a challenge, convinces Lainey to give Chloe a chance by pitching the exhibition as a "commentary on the pharmaceutical industry and our culture's obsession with medication."

As the exhibition draws closer, Ilana and Chloe become closer, and Ilana starts to question her feelings for Chloe. Abbi, on the other hand, is dealing with her own romantic struggles as she discovers that Trey is in an open relationship with his girlfriend. Just as things seem to be falling apart, Ilana's exhibition ends up being a huge success, and Abbi ends up having a heart-to-heart with Trey about their feelings for each other.

The episode ends with Ilana and Chloe sharing a romantic moment as they take a midnight stroll through the streets of New York City. "Artsy Fartsy" is a poignant and hilarious episode of Broad City that combines the show's signature irreverent humor with heartfelt moments of self-discovery and connection.
