Ep 2. Nice Coupling

In Buddy Complex season 1 episode 2, titled Nice Coupling, we see the continuation of the story from the previous episode, where a high school student Aoba Watase gets transported into the future where he finds himself in the middle of a battle between two factions known as Free Pact Alliance and Zogilia Republic. In this episode, we dive deeper into the world where Aoba finds himself and get introduced to some new characters.

The episode starts with Aoba waking up in a bed, where he is informed by a girl named Hina Yumihara that he has been unconscious for the past six days. Hina is a technician and part of the Free Pact Alliance, who is assisting Aoba in understanding the world he finds himself in and training him to become a mecha pilot. Aoba is eager to learn and becomes more curious about the world he is now a part of.

Meanwhile, we see Zogilia Republic's army preparing for an attack on the Free Pact Alliance's base, and an important decision is taken by Narvi Stryze, who is the captain of the Free Pact Alliance's ship Cygnus, to launch a counter-attack with their mechas. The mechas, known as Couplers, are specially designed for space combat and can only be operated by special individuals called Couplers, hence the name.

This is where the episode gets its title, Nice Coupling, as we see a new pair of Couplers in action- Dio Junyou Weinberg and his partner Hina. Dio is a skilled pilot and is at the top of his class, and Hina is a talented technician who can make a Coupler function at its best. We see them work together and create a nice coupling, as they take down the Zogilia Republic's mechas with ease, demonstrating their superior skills.

As the battle progresses, Aoba gets his first taste of combat when he is deployed in a Coupler with a girl named Mayuka Nasu. Mayuka is a quiet girl who is hesitant to fight but finds courage in Aoba's enthusiasm. They are given a simple objective of protecting the Cygnus, but things take a turn when they encounter a powerful enemy mecha. Aoba's lack of experience becomes evident as he struggles to keep up with the enemy, but with Mayuka's encouragement, he manages to land the winning blow.

The battle comes to an end, and the day is won by the Free Pact Alliance, but not without losses. The Cygnus suffers heavy damage, and Hina is revealed to have sustained an injury during the battle. The episode ends on a sombre note as we see the aftermath of the battle and the toll it has taken on the characters.

Overall, Buddy Complex season 1 episode 2 is an action-packed episode that builds upon the world and characters established in the previous episode. We get introduced to new characters who add depth to the story and show their unique skills in battle. The episode also highlights the importance of teamwork and trust between Couplers, as we see Dio and Hina's impressive collaboration in battle and Mayuka and Aoba's growth in support of each other.
