In Car Fix season 3 episode 7, entitled "Skylark Project: Part 1," the hosts embark on an ambitious restoration project for a 1968 Buick Skylark. The car, which has seen better days, is in need of a complete overhaul in order to get it back on the road in top condition.
The episode starts with the hosts, Lou Santiago and Jared Zimmerman, examining the car and assessing the damage. They quickly realize that the Skylark has some serious rust issues that will need to be dealt with before they can move on to the more cosmetic aspects of the restoration.
To address the rust, the hosts start with a full strip-down of the car, removing all of the old paint and any damaged parts. They then move on to the bodywork, using a variety of tools and techniques to repair the rusted areas and make sure the car is structurally sound.
Once the rust issues have been taken care of, the hosts move on to the engine. They begin by pulling out the old, tired V8 and replacing it with a more powerful and modern LS engine. This swap not only gives the car more horsepower, but also improves its fuel efficiency and reliability.
With the engine swap complete, the hosts turn their attention to the suspension and brakes. They install a new suspension system, as well as upgraded brake components, to ensure that the Skylark is both comfortable to drive and can stop on a dime.
As the episode comes to a close, the hosts have made significant progress on the Skylark, but there is still much work to be done. Viewers are left eagerly anticipating the next episode, where Lou and Jared will continue their restoration journey and bring this classic American car back to life.
