Ep 1. What Loneliness

Joe Turner is an idealistic millennial working for the CIA. He spends his days analyzing data and information gathered from all over the world to identify potential threats to national security. On the night of his birthday, Joe works late, too engrossed in his job to notice the time. But when he finally decides to leave, he soon realizes that he is being followed.

Joe's paranoia is justified when he is ambushed by a group of armed men who have been waiting for him. After a brief struggle, Joe is knocked unconscious and wakes up tied to a chair in an unfamiliar location. The men introduce themselves as members of a shadowy organization known as 'The Section,' and they believe that Joe has information about a sophisticated algorithm designed to detect and prevent terrorist plots.

Joe initially denies any knowledge of the algorithm, but The Section is convinced that he is holding back. They threaten Joe and his loved ones, compelling him to tell the truth. Joe is astonished to learn that his colleagues, who he thought were fellow CIA operatives, are actually part of The Section.

After further interrogation, Joe reveals that he uncovered the algorithm while working on a project designed to identify potential terrorist targets. He admits that he kept the information secret from his bosses because he was not sure how it could be used, and he was afraid that his theories would be dismissed as paranoid.

The Section is interested in acquiring the algorithm and using it to their own ends. They reveal to Joe that they have been sanctioned by the government to take extreme measures to protect the country from an imminent terrorist attack that would prove catastrophic. Joe, however, is not convinced of their intentions and beliefs.

Joe is eventually able to escape thanks to a daring rescue effort by one of his colleagues. Disillusioned and traumatized by his experience, Joe goes into hiding, unsure of whom he can trust.

The show Condor season 1 (episode 1) titled What Loneliness, poses complex questions regarding national security and personal freedom. The first episode sets the tone for the rest of the season, with high stakes, an uncertain and changing world and people in power who can't always be trusted. The show offers an intriguing cocktail of espionage, political drama, and even a pinch of romance. Fans of thrillers will find a lot to love about this show.
