Hit the Road is a comedy series that initially aired on the Audience Network in 2017. Produced by Seinfeld's Jason Alexander, the show revolves around a musical family, the Swallow's, who travel across the country for their tour in their bio-diesel-powered bus called 'The Swallow Mobile'. They have been on the road for 20 years, and the only thing that keeps them together is their love for each other and their music.

Natalie Sharp plays the role of Ken Swallow, the matriarch of the Swallow family who is the driving force behind their musical success. Nick Marini portrays the role of Alex Swallow, the arrogant and self-centered son of Ken, who also doubles as the lead guitarist of the band. Tim Johnson Jr. plays the role of Jermaine Swallow, Ken's adopted son, who initially joined the family as a backup singer and is struggling to prove himself in the family business.

The first episode of the series begins with the Swallow family receiving their first-ever bad review of their music, which puts their tour in jeopardy. On top of that, their bus breaks down in the middle of the desert, forcing them to hitchhike to the closest town. The rest of the series follows the family's weird and comical experiences as they try to keep their tour on track through various mishaps and hurdles.

Apart from the three main characters, the show features various other characters, including the Swallow's accountant, Ken's ex-husband, and a few members of their entourage.

Throughout the series, the Swallow family members are forced to confront each other's quirks, shortcomings, and secrets, which threaten to break their bond of love and music. The character development and interaction between the family members make the show worth watching.

The musical performances in the show are another highlight. The Swallow's songs are catchy and the performances, though not at par with professional musicians, are entertaining. There are moments of drama, comedy, and musical performances, making Hit the Road an excellent mix of different genres.

Hit the Road's humor is slapstick, goofy, and, at times, raunchy. The show doesn't shy away from adult themes and language, which adds to its edgy charm. The comedy may not be for everyone, but those who appreciate offbeat, irreverent humor will surely enjoy the show.

One of the criticisms of the show is the predictability of its plot. The missed opportunities to give the characters more depth and meaningful character arcs have also been noted. Despite these issues, the actors do a great job portraying the eccentric family, which carries the show.

In summary, Hit the Road is a wacky, musical comedy series that is perfect for those who love humor that is a tad bit strange. The performances are fun, the music is catchy, and the characters are relatable, making it a series worth watching. The show may not be for everyone, but it is a fun watch for those who enjoy offbeat humor.
