Ep 10. The Fall

The episode "The Fall" from season 2 of Corporate follows the aftermath of Matt and Jake's failed attempt at starting their own company, Hampton DeVille. After losing all their savings, they are forced to return to their old jobs at Hampton DeVille. But the company is not the same as it was before they left. Hampton DeVille has undergone a restructuring, and a new "efficiency expert" has been brought in to make major changes. Matt and Jake are tasked with the impossible job of convincing employees to leave the company voluntarily in order to meet the new efficiency goals.

As Matt and Jake go about their day, they realize just how much has changed at Hampton DeVille. Their old friends and colleagues have become jaded and cynical, and many have lost their passion for their work. But Matt and Jake are determined to succeed at their new task. They put up posters around the office encouraging employees to quit, and even offer a generous severance package to those who do.

Despite their efforts, many employees refuse to leave. Some simply can't afford to quit, while others are too afraid to leave the stability of their jobs. Desperate, Matt and Jake turn to some of the less ethical tactics they learned in their time away from Hampton DeVille, including blackmail and sabotage. While these tactics do manage to get some employees to quit, they also lead to a major crisis within the company.

As the episode progresses, it becomes clear that the new efficiency goals are not realistic and that the company is headed for disaster. Matt and Jake find themselves caught in the middle of a power struggle between the new efficiency expert and their old boss, Christian. In the end, they are forced to make a difficult decision that will determine the fate of the company and their own careers.

Throughout the episode, the show tackles themes of corporate greed, burnout, and the morality of the workplace. It is a darkly comedic look at the realities of modern office life, and the ways in which we are all complicit in the larger systems that govern our lives. At its heart, however, "The Fall" is a story about friendship and the lengths we will go to help the people we care about, even when we know they are in the wrong.
