Ep 6. Broken

In CSI: Miami season 1 episode 6, entitled "Broken," the episode begins with a group of teens playing basketball on a public court. One of the teens, Aaron, suddenly hears a gunshot and is shot in the leg. The shooter gets away, and the CSI team is called to investigate the crime scene.

As the team starts to gather evidence, they come to the realization that a stray bullet hit a nearby hotel window, shattering the glass and injuring a hotel guest. The team then must reconstruct the path of the bullet to find out where the shooter was standing when they fired.

The CSI team starts with the basics- inspecting the bullet, and the gunpowder found, to determine that the bullet is from a .45 caliber handgun. They also examine the victim, Aaron's, leg wound to see what part of the gun the bullet came from. The team is quickly able to determine that the bullet came from a custom-made gun.

The team interviews Aaron and his friends, but they aren't able to offer much assistance. There were no witnesses, and Aaron didn't recognize his attacker. The team also visits the hotel room of the injured guest. She is clearly traumatized by the experience but provides little information.

Meanwhile, the medical examiner on the team, Alexx Woods, is called to investigate a different death. A man's body has been discovered in the trunk of a car- he died from severe head trauma. Alexx starts to examine the body and uncovers crucial evidence that links the two cases together- the same weapon that was used to shoot Aaron was also used to kill the man in the trunk.

As the team continues to investigate, they discover that the man found in the trunk was the previous owner of the custom-made gun used in the shooting. The current owner of the gun is a man named Brandon who works in a repair shop. He denies any involvement, but the evidence tells a different story.

Brandon is arrested, and he protests his innocence. It's only when the team manages to locate the actual shooter, a former employee of Brandon's, that things start to fall into place.

The ending is a satisfying one, with all the loose ends tied up, and the culprit brought to justice. Overall the episode is fast-paced, with plenty of clues to keep viewers engaged. The introduction of the second storyline- the body in the trunk- is a clever way to connect the two cases; the plot twist is unexpected but not contrived, making it a great addition to the episode. "Broken" is a well-written and well-executed episode by the CSI team that is sure to entertain audiences.
