In the eighth episode of season two of the classic TV show Dallas, titled Election, viewers are treated to a tense and dramatic storyline as the Ewing family finds themselves in the midst of a hotly contested political campaign. As the episode begins, it's clear that JR Ewing (played by Larry Hagman) is up to his old tricks once again as he sets his sights on winning a seat on the board of directors for West Star Oil.

But despite JR's best efforts to secure the votes he needs to win, he soon finds himself facing stiff competition in the form of Cliff Barnes (Ken Kercheval), his longtime rival and the current president of the company. As the two men engage in a series of heated exchanges and power plays throughout the episode, unresolved tensions from years of bitter feuding continue to simmer just beneath the surface.

Adding to the drama is the fact that Bobby Ewing (Patrick Duffy), JR's younger brother and the CEO of Ewing Oil, finds himself caught in the middle of the power struggle between JR and Cliff. While Bobby is far more level-headed than his older brother and is hesitant to get involved in the backstabbing and scheming, he also knows that the future of the company may depend on the outcome of the election.

As the board meeting to decide the fate of the company draws near, tensions begin to reach a boiling point between JR and Cliff. Both men resort to underhanded tactics to try and sway the vote in their favor, including manipulating some of the other board members and using insider information to gain an unfair advantage.

Meanwhile, other members of the Ewing family are struggling with their own issues. Sue Ellen (Linda Gray), JR's ex-wife, is still battling her addiction to alcohol and is desperately trying to keep her drinking under control. Bobby's wife Pam (Victoria Principal) is also dealing with her own set of problems, as she grapples with her feelings of inadequacy and worries that she may not be living up to her husband's expectations.

With so many different story lines in play, Election is a gripping and fast-paced episode that's sure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. As the final votes are tallied and the fate of West Star Oil hangs in the balance, fans of the show will be left eagerly anticipating the next chapter in the ongoing saga of the Ewing family and their struggles for power and control in the cutthroat world of big oil.
