In the second episode of the fifth season of Dallas, titled Gone, But Not Forgotten, viewers find the Ewing family and those close to them grappling with the loss of a beloved family member. The episode opens with the aftermath of Jock Ewing's funeral, with everyone feeling the pain of his absence and struggling to come to terms with the reality of a world without him.

Bobby Ewing, Jock's youngest son, is hit the hardest by his father's death. As he tries to cope with his grief, he also finds himself dealing with a number of other problems. The oil rig he and his brother JR have invested in is not producing as much as they'd hoped, putting a strain on their finances. Meanwhile, he is also dealing with the ongoing tension between his wife Pam and his ex-girlfriend Jenna Wade.

JR Ewing, Bobby's older brother, is also struggling to come to terms with Jock's death. He has always had a difficult relationship with his father, and now that he is gone, he feels a sense of longing to have resolved their issues. In addition to his grief, JR is also dealing with business troubles of his own. He is trying to convince his business partner, Pierce Stone, to become involved in a more lucrative venture, but Pierce is hesitant. JR must figure out how to convince him to get on board before it's too late.

Meanwhile, Sue Ellen, JR's ex-wife, is also dealing with her own set of problems. She is trying to stay sober while also dealing with the fact that JR has moved on and is now involved with his secretary, Mandy Winger. Sue Ellen is feeling a sense of jealousy and resentment, which only adds to her struggles.

Throughout the episode, there are various subplots and smaller storylines that play out. Ray, the Ewing family's ranch foreman, is dealing with the fact that his daughter Mickey is now a professional musician and has moved away from the ranch. Lucy, JR and Bobby's niece, is dating a new man named Kit Mainwaring, but is also keeping secrets from him. And Cliff Barnes, the family's arch-nemesis, is still trying to take down the Ewings by any means necessary.

As the episode progresses, it becomes clear that the loss of Jock Ewing will have long-lasting effects on the characters. They must come to terms with the fact that he is gone, but also find a way to move forward without him. Whether it's dealing with personal problems or business troubles, everyone is feeling the pain of his loss in their own way.

Overall, Gone, But Not Forgotten is a somber but engaging episode of Dallas that showcases the emotional depth of its characters. While it deals with heavy subject matter, it also weaves in lighter moments and complex relationships that keep the viewer invested in the story.
