Ep 12. Wannabe

Wannabe is the twelfth episode of the first season of Degrassi: The Next Generation. The episode is focused on the character of Ashley, who decides to start a band with her friends Terri and Paige after being inspired by a local concert.

At the start of the episode, Ashley is feeling left out because her boyfriend Jimmy and her best friend Terri are spending a lot of time together. She decides to join Terri's cheerleading squad in an attempt to bond with them, but quickly realizes that it's not quite her scene. Meanwhile, Paige suggests that they start a band, since she's been taking guitar lessons. Ashley is excited at the prospect, but Terri is hesitant, feeling like she's not cool enough to be in a band.

The girls decide to practice in Paige's garage, but they quickly run into some problems. Ashley is struggling to write lyrics, and Paige is getting frustrated with Terri's lack of rhythm. They attempt to play at a local talent show, but things don't go exactly as planned. Terri panics and freezes up on stage, leaving Ashley and Paige to try to save the performance. They don't make it very far, but the experience inspires Ashley to take her music more seriously.

As the episode progresses, Ashley starts to distance herself from her boyfriend and best friend in order to focus on the band. She spends all her time writing songs and rehearsing, much to the frustration of Terri and Jimmy. When Jimmy gets angry at Ashley for neglecting him, she realizes that she's been neglecting her friends as well. She decides to apologize, but things don't go smoothly. Terri doesn't want to forgive her for ignoring her, while Jimmy is more understanding.

Despite the setbacks, the band finally gets their first real gig at a local club. The experience is thrilling for Ashley, but it also causes tension between her and her friends. Terri is jealous of the attention that Ashley is getting, and she's hurt that Ashley is treating her poorly. Meanwhile, Ashley is frustrated that Terri doesn't seem as committed to the band as she is.

In the end, Ashley has to make a tough decision. She's faced with the choice of quitting the band in order to repair her relationships with her friends, or continuing with the band at the cost of her friendships. What will she choose? You'll have to watch Wannabe to find out.
