Ep 11. The Rescue (7)

The Rescue (7) is the eleventh episode of the first season of Doctor Who, and it follows the Doctor and his companions as they find themselves on a planet called Dido, which was thought to be deserted. Upon arrival, they discover a crashed spaceship, and the Doctor and Ian venture inside to investigate.

Inside the ship, the Doctor and Ian find two survivors - a young woman named Vicki and an alien creature called a Didonian. They learn that the Didonians were the original inhabitants of the planet, but were enslaved and nearly wiped out by a group of humans who crashed on the planet years ago. The humans left behind a single Didonian as a slave, and the rest were killed in an uprising.

The Doctor and his companions soon realize that the rescue ship they arrived on is actually one of the original ships from the human colony, and the two survivors on board are planning to destroy the planet and cover up their crimes. The Doctor and Vicki manage to stop their plan, and with Vicki's help, the Doctor is able to convince the Didonian to leave the planet and explore the universe.

This episode explores themes of colonization, oppression, and the consequences of our actions as a species. It also introduces Vicki as a new companion for the Doctor, replacing Susan who left the show in the previous episode. The Rescue (7) is a classic Doctor Who adventure, with tense moments of danger, clever twists and turns, and a heartwarming conclusion that reminds us of the importance of compassion and empathy.
