As a full-service veterinarian with a passion for exotic animals, Dr. Susan Kelleher is back for another exciting season of Dr. K's Exotic Animal ER. In episode 4, viewers get an inside look at the daily challenges that Dr. K and her team face as they work tirelessly to provide comprehensive care for a variety of unique patients.
The episode title, "Sticky Pixie and Trixie Too!", hints at some of the animal patients Dr. K will encounter. One of the most notable cases involves a 15-year-old sugar glider named Pixie who has a sticky situation in her mouth. Sugar gliders are small, nocturnal marsupials that are popular as pets due to their adorable appearance and sociable nature. However, they have a specialized diet of nectar, pollen, and insects that can sometimes lead to dental issues.
Pixie's owners bring her to Dr. K's clinic after noticing that she's having trouble eating and seems to be in pain. Dr. K quickly diagnoses the problem as a foreign object stuck in Pixie's mouth. With the help of her team, she conducts a delicate procedure to remove the object and treats Pixie's mouth to prevent further complications. The procedure is a success, and Pixie is soon able to eat and play like normal.
Another memorable case involves Trixie, a beautiful African grey parrot who is experiencing a serious health issue. African grey parrots are known for their intelligence and ability to mimic human language, but they also have unique respiratory systems that make them susceptible to respiratory infections. Trixie's owners bring her to Dr. K's clinic when they notice that she's having trouble breathing.
After a thorough examination, Dr. K determines that Trixie has a respiratory infection that requires immediate treatment. She prescribes antibiotics and other medications to help Trixie recover, but the situation is complicated by the fact that Trixie is extremely fearful and resistant to taking medication. Dr. K and her team must work carefully and patiently to ensure that Trixie gets the help she needs without causing her undue stress.
Throughout the episode, viewers also get to see some of the other animals that Dr. K and her team care for, including a python, a hedgehog, and a chinchilla. As always, the show provides a fascinating look at the daily workings of a veterinary clinic that specializes in exotic animals. From the careful handling of delicate creatures to the challenges of diagnosing and treating unusual health issues, Dr. K's Exotic Animal ER offers a unique and insightful look at the world of exotic animal care.
