In the second season of Everwood, episode 2 titled "Extra Ordinary," viewers are taken on an emotional ride through the lives of the characters in the small Colorado town. The episode starts with Dr. Andy Brown (played by Treat Williams) enjoying a run in the woods with his son, Delia (played by Vivien Cardone), when they stumble upon a young girl who is experiencing an asthma attack. Andy attends to her immediately, and the girl's grateful mother invites Andy and Delia to her daughter's birthday party.

Meanwhile, Ephram (played by Gregory Smith) is still struggling with his father, Dr. Brown's, decision to send him away for the summer to a prestigious music school. He feels like he is out of place and that his talents might not be up to par with the other students in the program. At school, he meets a girl named Madison (played by Sarah Drew), who seems to take an interest in him. Still, Ephram is too preoccupied with his doubts and insecurities to notice.

Back in town, Andy's sister, Dr. Linda Abbott (played by Marcia Cross), is having issues with her boyfriend, Jake (played by Scott Wolf). Linda is worried about what they both want out of their relationship, and it's clear that they have a lot of issues they need to work through.

At the birthday party, Andy quickly realizes that the little girl they saved in the woods is extraordinary in more ways than one. She has an extraordinary ability to do a math equation in her head – something that even her astounded mother can't comprehend. Andy is fascinated by her abilities and begins to investigate further. He soon discovers that there may be more children in the town with similar talents, and that they are not being challenged enough in school.

Meanwhile, Ephram is still struggling with his music and his place in the program. His roommate, Kyle (played by Steven R. McQueen), tries to reassure him that he's talented, but Ephram can't seem to shake his doubts. Madison also tries to encourage him, but Ephram can't bring himself to believe her.

Back in town, Linda and Jake are still at odds. Linda wants to have a baby, but Jake isn't ready for that kind of responsibility. Linda starts to question whether or not their relationship can survive such a huge difference in goals.

As the episode comes to a close, all the storylines come together. Andy discovers that there are indeed more children with extraordinary abilities, and he decides to take matters into his own hands by challenging them academically. Ephram finally realizes that he's in the music program for a reason and that he belongs there. He even plays a piece for Madison, and they share a romantic moment. Linda and Jake reconcile their differences, but they still have a lot of work to do before they are on the same page.

Overall, "Extra Ordinary" is an emotional and heartwarming episode of Everwood. It explores the complexities of relationships, the struggles of growing up, and the importance of challenging oneself. Viewers will be left empathizing with the characters and rooting for their success in their individual journeys.
