Ray and Debra are having a small dispute over a seemingly insignificant item: a toaster. Ray goes to make his toast one morning, only to find that the toaster is gone. Debra reveals that she has thrown it away because it was old and broken, and she had bought a new one to replace it. Ray is angry that she didn't consult him before throwing away the old one, as he had sentimental attachment to it.
As the argument escalates, Ray's parents come over for a visit, adding fuel to the fire. Marie, Ray's mother, takes his side and tells Debra that she has no right to throw away something that belonged to her son. Frank, Ray's father, agrees with Debra that it was just a toaster and not worth arguing over. This disagreement leads to tension between Frank and Marie, causing them to argue as well.
The argument over the toaster becomes a symbol for deeper issues in the relationship between Ray and Debra. They both realize that they have been taking each other for granted and not considering each other's feelings and opinions. They agree to start communicating more and being more mindful of each other's needs.
Meanwhile, Robert, Ray's brother, is dealing with his own issues. He has a new girlfriend who is very into astrology, and he is embarrassed by how much he is starting to believe in it. He goes to his police officer colleagues for advice, and they all have a good laugh at his expense. In the end, Robert decides to embrace his interest in astrology and share it with his girlfriend.
The episode ends with the family having dinner together, with everyone getting along and laughing. The toaster is still gone, but the family has resolved their issues and become closer as a result.
