Full Moon wo Sagashite Season 1 Episode 1 Nonetheless, I want to Sing

  • April 6, 2002

Twelve-year-old Mitsuki Koyama's dream is to become a pop singer, but her weak vocal cords prevent her from pursuing her passion. She has been diagnosed with a throat tumor, which doctors warn will eventually lead to her losing her voice entirely. She lives with her strict grandmother who doesn't approve of Mitsuki's talent, and she thinks that idolizing singer Takuto Kira, who has gone missing for three years, is childish.

Mitsuki desperately wants to audition for the music company Seed Records, but she knows that her tumor will prevent her from being chosen. One day, she is visited by two shinigami, or death spirits, named Meroko Yui and Takuto Kira, who inform her that she has only one year left to live. Mitsuki is unwilling to accept her fate and begs the shinigami to give her a second chance to audition to become a singer.

Her wish is granted, and Mitsuki is transformed into a healthy 16-year-old with a full year to live, but with a condition that she must keep her true identity a secret. She immediately sets out to audition for Seed Records, with Meroko and Takuto following her every move. When she arrives, she overhears two people talking about how her audition is just a formality to fulfill an obligation to a deceased friend with no chance of success.

Despite feeling discouraged, Mitsuki performs her heart out, belting out a beautiful song that moves everyone in the room. Her voice is stunning and captivates everyone, including Seed Record's Vice President, Madoka Wakamatsu. He invites Mitsuki to his office for a private meeting, whereupon Mitsuki reveals her true identity to be a 12-year-old girl. However, Wakamatsu is still impressed and offers to help Mitsuki become a singer.

As Mitsuki is leaving Seed Records, she is stopped by the two people who were talking about her earlier. They reveal themselves to be Wakamatsu's colleague, Keiichi Wakaouji, and Takuto's former manager, Yoneya. They explain to Mitsuki that Takuto was their friend and they've been searching for him for the past three years since he mysteriously disappeared. Mitsuki is shocked to find out that Takuto Kira is the same person she idolizes.

When Mitsuki arrives home, she is overjoyed with her successful audition. However, Meroko reminds her that she still has to keep her true identity a secret and bids farewell. Takuto, on the other hand, wants to help Mitsuki achieve her dream and decides to stay with her as her personal assistant.
