In season 3 episode 1 of Genealogy Roadshow, titled "Albuquerque," expert genealogists journey to New Mexico to uncover the family histories of locals in an effort to unlock secrets and surprise them with unexpected findings.
The first person to seek their assistance is a woman named Rebecca who is hoping to learn more about her Native American ancestry. She has always felt a strong connection to her culture, but it has always been a mystery to her, passed down by her great-grandmother. The team takes her on a journey to discover the origins of her family and finds some surprising connections to the history of her tribe and the role they played in the American West.
Next up, a man named Michael is trying to connect with his deceased father, who died when he was only six years old. While Michael has a couple of family photos, he knows very little about his paternal side of the family. Through extensive research, the genealogists are able to connect the dots and Michael is finally able to understand the man his father was and the family he left behind.
Sheryl comes to the genealogy team because she is interested in learning about the life and death of her great-grandfather, who died when her grandfather was only two years old. The family has always been tight-lipped about what happened to him, and they're not sure if he died during the Spanish Flu or was killed in the line of duty as a law enforcement officer. The team takes her on an emotional journey to uncover the truth, which leads to some interesting revelations that shed light on the family's history.
Finally, a woman named Diana asks the genealogists to help her find out why her great-uncle was murdered in the middle of the night back in the 1950s. The mystery has plagued her family for decades, and they've never been able to figure out who was responsible or what the motive was. Through their investigation, the team uncovers some shocking information that helps Diana understand the complicated dynamics of her family and the community they lived in.
Throughout the episode, the expert team of genealogists uses their skills and knowledge to help each person better understand their past and the events that shaped their family's history. With every reveal, the subjects are surprised and often emotional, shedding light on the power and importance of delving into one's own ancestry. The episode ends with each individual leaving with a newfound appreciation for their family's past and the stories that make up their individual legacies.
