This show takes genealogy on the road in the United States. This show uses genealogy science to discover the history and heritage of people and their communities. This show also uses other disciplines to reach back across time and link family stories to historical fact. It is partly detective story and partly emotional journey as each person's ancestry is studied. The first season of Genealogy Roadshow features people from four American cities. These cities are Nashville, Detroit, San Francisco and Austin and are all considered important American cultural crossroads. The people chosen all have a family story that they claim links them to a famous person or a famous event in history. Viewers will be with the participants as the show uses DNA science mixed with historical research and actual family heirlooms to discover the truth behind the stories. Each person's story will be examined individually by local historians. The historians will add local flair to the family story. They often reveal the findings in front of an audience in a meaningful location to the story being told. This show seeks to bring history to life on an individual level.
