Grand Tours of Scotland Season 2 Episode 2 - Elemental Beauty

In this episode of Grand Tours of Scotland, host Paul Murton takes us on a journey through some of Scotland's most elemental landscapes – exploring the natural beauty of the country and its many different features, from wild mountains to tranquil lochs.

Starting in the rugged hills of the Isle of Skye, Paul takes us through some of the island's most spectacular scenery. We see the famous Cuillin Mountains, with their jagged peaks and dramatic ridges, before heading out to explore the island's coastline and its unique geology. From ancient rock formations to hidden bays and wild sea cliffs, Skye is a place of great natural beauty that never fails to inspire.

After Skye, we head south to the mainland and the Cairngorms, Scotland's largest national park. Here we see the contrast of Scotland's landscape in its winter cover. With snow-capped peaks and frozen waterfalls, this is a landscape of stark beauty – and one that is home to a surprising array of wildlife. From mountain hares to reindeer, the Cairngorms are a haven for those who love nature and the great outdoors.

Next, we travel west to the Isle of Mull and its neighbouring island, Iona. This is a quite different landscape from the Cairngorms and Skye, with its rolling green hills and tranquil coastal bays. Here, we explore the islands' natural and human history, visiting ancient ruins and historic sites that tell the story of Scotland's past. From the stone circles of Mull to the ruined abbey on Iona, this is a journey into Scotland's spiritual heart.

Finally, we head north to the rugged and remote landscape of Sutherland and Caithness. Here, we explore the elemental beauty of Scotland's far north – a place of windswept hills, wild moorland, and hidden valleys. From the famous Flow Country – an area of blanket bog that stretches for miles – to the dramatic coastline of Duncansby Head, this is a journey into one of Scotland's last great wildernesses.

Throughout the show, host Paul Murton provides insights into Scotland's rich cultural heritage as well as its natural beauty. We learn about the people who have lived and worked in these landscapes over the centuries, and explore the different ways in which they have interacted with their surroundings.

Whether you're an experienced traveller or a first-time visitor, Elemental Beauty is a journey into the heart of Scotland's natural beauty – a place that will inspire and captivate you like no other.
