From Burns to Fultons is the fifth episode of the third season of the travel documentary series Grand Tours of Scotland. In this episode, host Paul Murton takes viewers on a journey through the southern part of Scotland, exploring the life and works of famous poet Robbie Burns and the pioneering engineering achievements of Robert Fulton.

The episode begins with a visit to the beautiful town of Dumfries, where Paul meets with local historian Dr. Fred Freeman to learn more about Burns and his connections to the town. They visit various landmarks associated with the poet, including the Globe Inn where he spent many nights, the Burns Mausoleum, and the Burns House Museum. Along the way, Paul recites some of Burns' most famous poems and songs, including "Auld Lang Syne" and "To a Mouse."

Next, Paul travels to the nearby village of Thornhill, where he visits the Drumlanrig Castle, one of the grandest houses in Scotland and home to the Duke of Buccleuch. He explores the magnificent gardens of the castle, which were designed by the famous landscape architect Capability Brown, and takes a tour of the grand halls and chambers of the castle.

Moving on from the castle, Paul travels to the town of Irvine, where he meets with local historian Hugh Maxwell to learn more about Robert Fulton. Fulton was a Scottish-American inventor and engineer who is best known for developing the first commercially successful steamboat, the Clermont. Paul visits a replica of the Clermont at the Scottish Maritime Museum and learns about the engineering behind the steam engine that powered it.

Paul also explores the River Irvine, which played a crucial role in the development of Fulton's steamboat. He takes a boat tour of the river, which is now a peaceful waterway that is home to a variety of wildlife. Along the way, he visits the historic Eglinton Castle, which was once home to the powerful Montgomerie family.

The episode concludes with Paul traveling to the small town of Mauchline, which was a frequent haunt of Burns. He visits the Burns House Museum, which features many of the poet's personal belongings, including his desk and chair. He also learns about Burns' romantic relationships and the unique love story behind one of his most famous poems, "Ae Fond Kiss."

Overall, From Burns to Fultons is a fascinating exploration of two of Scotland's most famous sons and the impact they had on the world.
