Ep 1. Halfway Narc

Halfway Home is a comedy television series that follows the lives of six convicted felons who live in a halfway house as part of their parole agreements. The show is set in Los Angeles and centers around the quirky interactions between the residents and the staff of the facility.

In the series premiere, titled "Halfway Narc", the audience is introduced to the six main characters who all have their own unique personalities and backgrounds. There's Todd (played by Jordan Black), a former weatherman convicted of embezzlement; Lee (played by Kevin Ruf), a former pro basketball player convicted of tax evasion; Kenny (played by Oscar Nunez), a former Wall Street banker convicted of insider trading; Carli (played by Regan Burns), a former beauty queen convicted of bribery; and the two newest residents, Phil (played by Eddie Pepitone), a former junkie convicted of burglary, and Loretta (played by Jessica Makinson), a former meth addict convicted of drug possession.

The episode starts off with Todd, the self-proclaimed leader of the halfway house, attempting to rally the other residents to overthrow the new staff member, Officer Swift (played by Gary Anthony Williams). Todd is convinced that Officer Swift is actually a drug dealer, and that he's planted drugs in the halfway house in order to frame one of the residents and get them sent back to prison.

As the residents argue amongst themselves about what to do, we get a glimpse into each character's backstory. We learn that Lee was living a lavish lifestyle until the IRS caught up with him, and that Kenny was driven to insider trading after losing everything in the market crash. Carli, on the other hand, seems to be more concerned with maintaining her beauty queen persona than actually changing her ways.

The tension reaches a boiling point when Phil discovers a bag of drugs hidden in the laundry room. The residents are quick to accuse each other, and even turn on Phil, thinking that he's planted the drugs in order to cause chaos. It's not until Officer Swift comes in and reveals that he's actually an undercover cop working to bust a drug ring that the residents finally come together to help him with his mission.

While "Halfway Narc" may not have been the most side-splitting episode of Halfway Home, it did provide a solid introduction to the main characters, as well as set up the potential for future storylines involving Officer Swift's investigation. The show's humor is definitely not for everyone, as it relies heavily on awkward silences and uncomfortable interactions, but if you're a fan of shows like The Office or Parks and Recreation, Halfway Home may be worth checking out.
