The seventh episode of Harukana Receive, titled “We’re Already Friends,” sees Haruka and Kanata working hard to improve their overall game. The episode begins with the two main characters practicing together, and while they are both happy with the progress they're making, they both admit that they need to work harder if they want to be successful in the upcoming tournament.
Kanata and Haruka soon find themselves practicing with a group of local volleyball players, including one of Kanata’s childhood friends, Ayasa. Ayasa expresses her admiration for Kanata’s skills, but also admits that she is jealous of Haruka, who she sees as Kanata's new partner. This jealousy leads Ayasa to challenge Haruka to a one-on-one match, which at first, Haruka is hesitant to engage with. However, Kanata encourages her to take up the challenge, telling her that this is a great opportunity to improve her overall game.
The resultant match, which serves as the major plot of the episode, sees Haruka giving her best, but Ayasa proves to be a formidable opponent. Meanwhile, Kanata watches the match closely, analyzing both her partner and her friend’s moves.
Throughout the game, Haruka uses the skills she has learned over the course of their practices to try to outmaneuver Ayasa. At one point, Ayasa begins to question what Haruka's deal is, leading the latter to make a confession: up until her arrival in Okinawa, Haruka had never been part of a close-knit team, and her primary motivation for playing volleyball had always been to make friends. This admission seems to inspire Ayasa, and there are hints that Ayasa and Haruka may become teammates in the future.
Ultimately, Haruka emerges victorious thanks to her quick, inventive thinking, though by the end of the game both she and Ayasa appear to have gained a newfound respect for one another. And while Haruka's victory is a great morale boost for her, Kanata is also able to gain valuable insights that will help her improve her already-impressive game.
While this episode sees "Harukana Receive" focus on the theme of friendship, it also highlights the importance of good sportsmanship, perseverance, and hard work. As the episode reaches its conclusion, it is clear that Haruka and Kanata are working that much harder to hone their skills and prepare for the upcoming tournament. With episode seven, "Harukana Receive" continues to offer a well-rounded and engrossing sports anime that will undoubtedly keep viewers engaged from beginning to end.
