  • July 26, 2011

In season 9 episode 6 of History Detectives, the team tackles three different investigations from various points in history.

The first investigation centers around a Japanese cane with a hidden blade. The owner acquired the cane from his grandfather, who served in the military overseas during World War II. The History Detectives team delves into the history of the cane and the significance of its hidden blade, uncovering potential connections to the samurai and their weaponry.

The second investigation focuses on a revolutionary telescope that was owned by a man named Russell Porter. Porter was an artist and inventor who collaborated with Albert Einstein and played a big role in developing the first telescope to be used in space. The telescope in question was a personal item of Porter's and had a unique configuration that the team must decipher in order to determine its historical significance.

The third investigation takes the team to the gold rush era and involves a series of pamphlets promoting a supposed gold mine owned by a man named I.W. Baker. The pamphlets were filled with grandiose promises of wealth and prosperity, but little is known about the mine or its owner. The History Detectives team sets out to uncover the truth about Baker, his mine, and the veracity of his claims.

In each investigation, the team uses their skills in historical research and detective work to unravel the mysteries and reveal the truth. With each step, they uncover new insights into the history and culture surrounding these unique objects and the people who owned and wielded them. Through it all, they bring to life the stories that connect us to our shared past and offer new perspectives on the world around us.
