Ep 6. Bagpipes

In season 5, episode 6 of How I Met Your Mother titled "Bagpipes," the gang discovers a bagpipe player outside of McLaren's Pub and decides to prank him by telling him that it's St. Patrick's Day, which in reality is still a few weeks away. However, their prank goes awry when they realize that the player, who goes by the stage name "The Blitz," is a friend from college who always misses out on the most legendary moments of their lives.

Feeling guilty about accidentally excluding The Blitz, the gang decides to make it up to him by bringing him along to their St. Paddy's Day festivities. Meanwhile, Barney struggles to deal with feelings of inadequacy after realizing that Ted has slept with nine women since they last competed for who could sleep with the most women in a month. With only one day left in the month, Barney desperately tries to catch up, but finds himself falling short.

At the St. Paddy's Day party, the gang indulges in Irish-themed shenanigans, including a green beer drinking contest, leprechaun impersonations, and a game of "Who Can Hold Their Breath The Longest" with a bagpipe player. It's during this game that The Blitz finally gets to be a part of a legendary moment with the gang, but the excitement is short-lived when he has a sudden heart attack and dies.

The episode takes a somber turn as the gang grapples with the reality of their friend's death and the realization that they will never have another chance to include him in their legendary moments. Meanwhile, Barney's focus on meaningless sexual conquests is put into perspective as he realizes that the pursuit of true friendship and genuine connections is far more important than fleeting pleasures.
