In the sixth episode of How to Make It in America season 1, titled "Good Vintage," Ben and his business partner Cam continue their quest to launch their denim line Crisp. This episode sees them brainstorming new designs for their line with their pattern maker, Rachel, and pitching their concept to a potential investor, Nancy Frankenburg.
Meanwhile, Rachel's roommate, Domingo, introduces Ben and Cam to a vintage clothing dealer named David Kaplan. Ben convinces David to sell them some of his vintage pieces for their new line. They start the search process to find the perfect pieces that fit their design aesthetic, and after a long day, they finally acquire some pieces that they feel will be a hit.
Ben and Cam's friendship is tested when Cam does not show up to a meeting that they scheduled with Nancy, and Ben is forced to pitch the idea alone. After a rocky start to the presentation, Ben is able to secure a business agreement with Nancy and secure funding for Crisp.
The episode also develops the personal relationships of the characters, as Ben's ex-girlfriend Rachel invites him to a party with her friends, which he reluctantly attends. Cam pays a visit to his ex-girlfriend, Lulu, and they rekindle their romance. However, Cam's past catches up with him when his former drug dealer shows up at Lulu's apartment and threatens to expose Cam's drug use to Lulu.
"Good Vintage" is a pivotal episode for the series, as it sets the stage for the rest of the season and establishes the characters' relationships and motivations. It also touches on themes such as the importance of loyalty, trust, and hard work in achieving success.
