Extras is a mockumentary style comedy set in the less than glamorous world of the movie extra. Produced and directed by the renown comedy team of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. Gervais plays the protagonist, Andy Millman, who is a bitter but ambitious aspiring actor. Stuck doing extra work while he waits for his big break he is constantly on the lookout for opportunities. He and his best friend Maggie, played by Ashley Jenson, are small fish in a big pond, attempting to rub shoulders with the famous actors that star in the productions they work on.

Each episode features a big name actor guest starring as a fictionalized version of themselves, including such luminaries as Kate Winslet, Samuel L. Jackson, and Sir Ian McKellen.

Merchant also appears onscreen, in the role of Millman's less than effective agent.

Extras Full Episode Guide

  • Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for. Case in point: Andy Millman, the sitcom star who wants desperately to be taken seriously as an actor, and is willing to do anything--including pulling the plug on his hit show--to do it. Emmy(R) Award-winner Ricky Gervais is back as Andy in the special finale of the acclaimed HBO comedy series. The stellar cast includes Ashley Jensen who returns in the comical role of Andy's best friend Maggie Jacobs, Stephen Merchant as Andy's clueless agent Darren Lamb, and Shaun Pye as Andy's arch-nemesis Greg Lindley Jones, a fellow extra who has suddenly hit the dramatic big Andy's chagrin.

  • Andy appears to have lost his down-to-earth personality when he decides to fire long-time agent Darren, and Maggie is hurt when he starts to leave her behind in favour of spending more time with his new celebrity friend Jonathan Ross.

  • Desperate for respect, Andy looks for work in the theater, and ends up getting cast by Sir Ian McKellen in a new play.

  • Chris Martin shills a Coldplay LP on Andy's show; Maggie gets a new dress; Andy and Ronnie Corbett get the BAFTA boot.

  • Attempting to appear grown-up, Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe makes Maggie an offer she certainly can refuse.

  • David Bowie offers some home truths to Andy as he finally realises his dream of TV success. However, it is soon apparent to the former background artist that fame comes at a price and he is devastated to learn that stardom isn't quite how he expected it to be.

  • Andy finally catches a break and busies himself making a classy sitcom that he hopes will stand the test of time. The BBC, however, has different ideas.

  • Thanks to Mr. Stewart, Andy's luck may be improving! But this chance of a lifetime comes into conflict with his relationship with bumbling Maggie, who may have caused more damage than ever before with her carelessness. This forces Maggie, in turn, to take a look at herself and her life.

  • While Maggie is doing everything possible to sabotage her romance with a handsome African-American actor, Andy is badgered into having dinner with a fellow middle-aged extra whose dour company he despises.

  • On the set of an epic period drama, Andy befriends 'EastEnders' actor Ross Kemp, only to find that Kemp's braggadocio doesn't sit well with soccer star Vinnie Jones, who's shooting on an adjacent set.

  • The tragic story of a man whose wife was killed in Bosnia is being brought to the screen--with a superstar actor directing. Andy attempts to parlay his friendship with the real-life widower--a consultant on the set--into a speaking role on the film.

  • Series premiere. On the set of a Holocaust film set in a nunnery, Andy and the film's star, Kate Winslet, become privy to Maggie's latest secret--that her new boyfriend Mike has a phone-sex fetish. Meanwhile, to get a date with an extra named Suzanne, Andy resorts to lying about his religious beliefs after being questioned by Suzanne's sister Francesca, who has cerebral palsy.
