Ep 7. The Seance

In season 1 episode 7 of I Love Lucy, titled "The Seance," Lucy and Ethel get wrapped up in the idea of hosting a séance after coming across an old Ouija board. Lucy quickly becomes obsessed with contacting her deceased friend Hazel, and despite Ricky's skepticism, he agrees to let the medium Madame X come to their apartment for a séance.

As Lucy prepares for the séance, she becomes more and more convinced that Hazel is trying to communicate with her. Ricky and Fred decide to play a prank on the girls and dress up as ghosts to scare them during the séance. However, their plan quickly goes awry when Madame X is unable to communicate with Hazel and instead starts communicating with Ricky and Fred's "ghosts."

Chaos ensues as Lucy and Ethel freak out at the supposed ghostly apparitions in their apartment and the men try to keep their identities hidden. In the end, Madame X is revealed to be a fraud, and the foursome realize they should have just stuck with their original plan of playing bridge.

"The Seance" showcases the classic humor and hijinks that I Love Lucy is known for, with Lucy's unyielding determination to communicate with her dead friend leading to hilariously disastrous consequences. The episode also touches on the popular fascination with the supernatural and the idea of communicating with the dead in the 1950s.
