Ep 3. Fractured

In this episode of Ice Cold Gold, the miners continue their search for gold in Greenland’s rugged landscape. The team is set to explore a new location named the Fracture Zone. The excitement is palpable as the miners hope to hit the mother lode and strike it rich.

The Fracture Zone is a challenging terrain that has never been explored before for gold mining and poses a big risk to the team. The team leader, Eric Drummond, carefully selects the crew by handpicking the bravest and the most experienced team members who can navigate and handle the dangerous terrain. The team includes Joshua Feldman, Jack Duggins, and Jesse Feldman. Each of these miners has the necessary equipment and expertise to take on the Fracture Zone.

As the team unloads their heavy equipment, they get a glimpse of the vast territory that they have to cover. The Fracture Zone is as beautiful as it is hazardous, with steep cliffs, treacherous slopes, and snow-covered crevasses. The miners decide to start with a prospecting technique called trenching. This method involves digging a ditch into the ground, examining the soil for signs of gold, and then moving onto the next spot. The miners carefully analyze the soil, keeping a lookout for any sign of the gold vein.

However, even with their expertise, they struggle to strike any gold. This is because of the challenging terrain, where the ground is covered with snow, and the temperatures are below freezing. The team is starting to feel the pressure as they realize that their equipment might not be sufficient for the conditions. Joshua and Jack struggle to move their excavator through the sloping icy terrain, and Eric, Jesse, and Jack struggle with the metal detector that is picking up readings from the iron in the rocks.

Despite these difficulties, the team continues to push forward, knowing that there is a rich vein of gold waiting to be found. They focus on rechecking their readings and changing their prospecting methods. They decide to try a new technique called Sluicing. This method involves running water over the soil so that the current carries away any loose dirt and exposes the gold.

As they begin sluicing, the team gets a little excitement when they find fragments of quartz in the sluice. They realize that the fragments might be an indication of gold. Even though they are not certain, they continue to sluice in the hopes that they might strike gold.

After hours of sluicing the team is rewarded when they find a few small bits of gold. While it is not the mother lode, it's enough to encourage the team, giving hope, and determined to continue their drilling efforts in the Fracture Zone.

As the sun begins to set, the team realizes that they have to head back to their camp. They continue to discuss the possibility of finding gold in the Fracture Zone and the challenges they face in such difficult terrain.
