Ill Behaviour is a dark comedy-drama television series released by Showtime in 2017. Created by Sam Bain, the show follows the story of three old friends who reunite after years apart in order to save one of their own from a terminal illness. Starring Chris Geere, Tom Riley, and Jessica Regan, Ill Behaviour is a refreshing and unconventional take on the typical medical procedural show.

The plot of the series is centered around Joel, played by Chris Geere, a man who has been recently diagnosed with cancer. After refusing to seek traditional medical treatment, Joel's friends, Charlie (Tom Riley) and Tess (Jessica Regan), hatch a plan to forcibly treat him against his will. The trio is joined later by Joel's oncology nurse, Nadia (Lizzy Caplan), who is also burdened with her own demons from the past. Together, they navigate the difficulties of treating Joel's illness while also dealing with their own personal baggage.

One of the most standout aspects of Ill Behaviour is its unique blend of humor and drama. The show tackles heavy topics such as cancer, addiction, and mental illness with levity and wit, providing a refreshing take on typically heavy-handed subjects. The series manages to strike a balance between the absurdity of the situation and the gravity of its consequences. Characters are complex and nuanced, making them all the more relatable and human.

The chemistry between the three main actors is apparent from the first episode. Chris Geere, Tom Riley, and Jessica Regan all bring their A-game to the table, delivering performances that are both hilarious and heartfelt. Geere's portrayal of Joel is a standout, providing a nuanced look at a man who is grappling with his own mortality. Tom Riley brings his signature charm as Charlie, Joel's old friend who is trying to do the right thing, even if it means going to extreme lengths. Jessica Regan's Tess is a breath of fresh air, providing a much-needed voice of reason in a situation that is quickly spiraling out of control.

The supporting cast also delivers in spades. Lizzy Caplan's Nadia provides a much-needed dose of reality in a show that is otherwise quite fantastical. John Gordon Sinclair's Doctor Glennis is a delightfully eccentric character who provides some of the show's most hilarious moments.

One of the most impressive aspects of Ill Behaviour is its pacing. The series manages to balance humor and drama without feeling rushed or disjointed. The show's eight-episode run is perfectly paced, allowing for character development and plot progression without sacrificing the story's momentum. Each episode leaves the viewer wanting more, with cliffhangers and twists that keep them on the edge of their seat.

Another standout aspect of the show is its cinematography. The series is shot in a way that is both visually stunning and thematically effective. The bright, poppy colors of the settings and wardrobes are juxtaposed against the darker, heavier subject matter, creating a striking contrast that keeps the viewer engaged. The show's use of close-ups and long shots also adds to the tension and drama of the series.

Overall, Ill Behaviour is a wildly entertaining and thought-provoking show that offers a fresh take on traditional medical dramas. With a talented cast, sharp writing, and impressive cinematography, the series stands out as one of the best of its kind. Fans of dark comedies and unconventional dramas are sure to be entertained by this unique gem of a show.
