  • December 15, 1999

After the Festival is the eleventh episode of Infinite Ryvius, a Japanese science fiction anime series that focuses on a group of young individuals who are forced to survive on a space station called Ryvius after their spaceship is attacked by an unknown enemy. The series is set in the future and incorporates themes such as political intrigue, interpersonal relationships, and survival.

In this episode, the students of the Liebe Delta Academy, who are stranded on the Ryvius, are seen recovering after the festival that took place in the previous episode. The festival provided a brief respite from the intense pressure of their situation, but now they are back to the reality of their situation: stranded in space with limited resources and no means of escape.

The episode begins with Yuki being approached by Juli Bahana, the daughter of one of the leading scientists of the Earth United Government who is also trying to prove her worth by working alongside the teachers and staff members of the Liebe Delta Academy. She confronts Yuki and asks him why he and his friends are lazy and do not take systematic approaches to the organization of their environment and living. Yuki talks back at her, telling her the reasons why they aren't able to be as active as previous generations, citing mistrust, stress, and exhaustion as the underlying factors behind their attitudes.

Meanwhile, Ikumi Oze, a skilled pilot and one of the leaders of the students, is seen experiencing flashbacks of her father, who died in an accident while trying to rescue her. Oze is wracked with guilt over his death and feels as if she will never be able to atone for it.

The episode also takes a closer look at the interpersonal relationships between the students. Mei, who has a crush on Kouji Aiba, is jealous of Aoi, who seems to have caught Kouji's attention. Mei confronts Aoi in a moment of anger, chastising her for coming in between her and Kouji. This leads to a confrontation between the two girls, ultimately resulting in Mei's admission of her feelings to Kouji.

Throughout the episode, tensions between the students continue to rise as they struggle to survive in a confined and limited environment. However, towards the end of the episode, a new threat emerges as the students discover that there is a leak in their electrical system, threatening the safety of everyone on board. The students must band together to confront this new threat and work together to prevent any further damage from occurring.

Overall, After the Festival is a character-driven episode that takes a closer look at the relationships and emotions of the students as they continue to face the challenges of their situation. It delves into themes of guilt, jealousy, and mistrust, showcasing the struggles that each individual must face in order to survive. Additionally, it introduces new threats and challenges, keeping the suspense and tension high throughout the episode.
