Ep 1. Fate's Prank

Yuki and Kotoko have been classmates since kindergarten and Yuki has always been the top student and object of Kotoko's affections. As they prepare to take their high school entrance exams, Kotoko decides to finally confess her feelings to Yuki. However, fate has a different plan in store for her.

After receiving her test results, Kotoko is devastated to find out that she did not get into the same prestigious high school as Yuki. To make matters worse, she overhears Yuki confessing his own love to her classmate, Chris, and is heartbroken.

As she's walking home, still upset, Kotoko trips and ends up falling down a flight of stairs. She wakes up in the hospital with a cast on her leg and a broken heart. To make things worse, her family's house is being renovated and they have nowhere to live. The only option they have is to move in with her father's childhood friend, Naoki.

Little does Kotoko know, Naoki is Yuki's older brother, and they have a strained relationship. Naoki is a genius and has always been cold and distant towards Kotoko. She tries to make the best of the situation and comes up with ways to help around the house, but nothing seems to soften Naoki's attitude towards her.

As Kotoko tries to adjust to her new living situation, she also starts attending her new high school. To her surprise, Naoki also attends the same school, and she finds out that he is one of the most popular guys among the female students.

As fate would have it, Kotoko's homeroom teacher assigns her to be Naoki's home tutor, forcing them to spend even more time together. Kotoko takes this opportunity to try to get closer to Naoki, but he remains cold and distant towards her.

Meanwhile, Yuki starts to take notice of Kotoko and her efforts to move on from her crush on him. He feels guilty for hurting her and tries to make amends by being kind towards her and helping her whenever he can.

As Kotoko starts to move on from Yuki, she realizes that she's starting to develop feelings for Naoki. Despite his cold attitude towards her, she can't help but feel drawn to him.

Will Kotoko ever be able to break through Naoki's defenses and win his heart? Or will fate have other plans for her?

Fate's Prank sets the stage for the romantic comedy that is ItaKiss, as we follow Kotoko's journey to find love and happiness amidst all the trials and tribulations of high school life.
