A young girl named Aoi Tsubaki finds herself in the world of Ayakashi, supernatural creatures from Japanese folklore, after being taken away by a demon known as Odanna. In order to pay off her debt to him, Aoi agrees to work at his bed and breakfast for spirits known as Kakuriyo. Since then, Aoi has met and befriended various Ayakashi guests, including the kindhearted Nine-Tailed Fox, Ginji, and the stern Ogre, Akatsuki.
In season 1 episode 9 of Kakuriyo -Bed & Breakfast for Spirits-, titled "An Elderly Ayakashi Couple's Wedding Anniversary," Aoi is tasked with cooking a special meal for a couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple is none other than the Valley Naga, a powerful serpent-like Ayakashi, and his wife, a majestic Dragon.
As Aoi prepares the meal in the kitchen, she notices that the Valley Naga seems to be acting strange. He seems uninterested in the celebration and doesn't seem to be getting along with his wife. Aoi realizes that the Valley Naga is feeling insecure about growing old and worries that his wife will become disinterested in him.
Struck by the couple's love for each other after 50 years of marriage, Aoi decides to make a special dish that will not only commemorate their anniversary but also reignite their love. Aoi begins cooking a hot pot dish made with the Valley Naga's favorite foods, including fish and mushrooms. She adds a special ingredient, a magical herb that is known to bring couples closer together.
When the dish is ready, Aoi brings it out to the couple. The Valley Naga is hesitant to try it at first, but after some encouragement from his wife, he takes a bite and is instantly transported back to memories of their early days together. Overcome with emotion, the couple rekindles their love as they reminisce about the old days.
As the night wears on, Aoi tells the couple about her own struggles and how her time at Kakuriyo has changed her. The couple is moved by her kindness and generosity, and they thank her for helping them rekindle their love. As a token of their appreciation, they present Aoi with a rare gemstone and a magic mirror, which they believe will help her on her journey to pay off her debt to Odanna.
In the end, the Valley Naga and his wife renew their wedding vows and affirm their love for each other. As Aoi watches the couple dance together, she realizes the true power of love and how it can overcome any obstacle. The episode ends with Aoi feeling content and at peace, knowing that she helped bring happiness to the elderly couple's lives.
Overall, season 1 episode 9 of Kakuriyo -Bed & Breakfast for Spirits- is a heartwarming story about the power of love and the importance of cherishing the moments we have with the ones we love. The episode showcases Aoi's growth as she learns to cook not only for the enjoyment of others but also to bring joy and love into their lives.
