Kangaroo Dundee is a documentary series that follows the work of Chris ‘Brolga’ Barnes, a wildlife caretaker who rescues and rehabilitates orphaned kangaroos in Alice Springs, Australia. In this episode, named ‘Hop to It,’ Brolga faces a new set of challenges as he continues to care for his growing group of kangaroo joeys.

The episode begins with Brolga introducing his three newest joeys: Kippi, Dusty, and Indie. Kippi, the youngest, is only five months old and still very reliant on Brolga for care. Dusty and Indie, on the other hand, are a bit older and more independent, but still require regular feedings and attention. Brolga and his team have their hands full as they try to keep up with the growing needs of their furry charges.

As the days go by, Brolga faces a number of new challenges with his kangaroos. First, he notices that Dusty and Indie are starting to outgrow their pouches and will soon need larger accommodations. Brolga knows he needs to act fast to build new cribs for his joeys before they become too uncomfortable. With help from his team, he works tirelessly to construct custom-built cribs that will meet the kangaroos’ needs.

But building the cribs is only half the battle. Brolga also needs to convince the joeys to use them. Initially, the kangaroos are hesitant to leave the comfort of their pouches and try out their new sleeping arrangements. Brolga employs a number of tricks to coax them out of their pouches, including using a stuffed kangaroo toy as a surrogate parent and leaving treats in the cribs. Eventually, the joeys give in and start sleeping in their new cribs.

Another challenge arises when Brolga discovers that Kippi has a medical condition called ‘poor gut motility.’ Essentially, this means that Kippi has trouble digesting her food and needs extra care and attention to keep her healthy. Brolga consults with a veterinarian and adjusts Kippi’s diet to help her condition, but he knows that it will be a long road ahead.

Despite the challenges, Brolga’s love for his kangaroos shines through in every scene. He spends countless hours caring for each and every joey, feeding them, playing with them, and even sleeping alongside them when needed. He credits his success to his ability to truly understand the kangaroos’ behavior and needs, which allows him to provide the best possible care.

The episode concludes with Brolga reflecting on his work and the importance of caring for orphaned kangaroos. He notes that kangaroos are an iconic part of Australia’s culture and landscape, and that it is important to ensure their survival for generations to come. Through his work with these joeys, Brolga is making a difference and helping to raise awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation.

Overall, ‘Hop to It’ is a heartwarming and informative episode that showcases the dedication and hard work of wildlife caretaker Chris ‘Brolga’ Barnes. It offers a glimpse into the world of kangaroo rehabilitation and serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting and preserving Australia’s unique wildlife.
