Of Mice and Little Green Men is the fourteenth episode of the sixth season of the popular animated sitcom King of the Hill. The episode originally aired on February 3, 2002, and was written by Tony Gama-Lobo and Rebecca May.
The episode opens with Hank and Dale on a camping trip in the woods, enjoying some quality time away from their respective families. As they sit around the campfire, they hear strange noises coming from the nearby forest. Dale becomes convinced that aliens are responsible for the noise, but Hank remains skeptical.
Back in Arlen, Peggy begins making preparations for her high school reunion, which she is determined to attend in order to prove to her former classmates that she is a successful and accomplished woman. With the help of her family, Peggy spends days putting together the perfect outfit and rehearsing her speech. Her confidence is quickly deflated, however, when she discovers that her old bully, Maddy Platter, will be attending the reunion as well.
Meanwhile, back in the woods, Dale's obsession with the supposed alien presence begins to drive Hank crazy. Dale's erratic behavior and constant conspiracy theories lead him to shoot a tree, which comes crashing down on their campsite. Hank becomes fed up with Dale's antics and tells him that he is going home, leaving Dale alone in the woods.
Back in Arlen, Peggy attends the reunion, hoping to prove herself to her former classmates. However, things do not go according to plan when Maddy Platter starts making catty remarks about Peggy's outfit and her status as a substitute teacher. Peggy begins to feel insecure and inferior once again, and decides to leave the reunion early.
As Peggy drives home, she picks up a hitchhiking Dale, who had eventually found his way out of the woods. Dale tells Peggy about his alien encounter and she begins to see the humor in the situation. When they arrive back in Arlen, Dale takes Peggy to his house to show her the evidence of the alien presence (which turns out to be nothing more than a pair of bifocals). Peggy is able to laugh at the situation and finally let go of her insecurities about Maddy and her high school years.
Overall, Of Mice and Little Green Men is a funny and lighthearted episode that explores themes of insecurity and the desire to prove oneself to others. The episode is full of classic King of the Hill humor, with Dale's conspiracy theories and Peggy's exaggerated ambition providing plenty of laughs. The episode also showcases the strong friendship between Hank and Dale, despite the fact that they have very different personalities and beliefs.
