Konohana Kitan is a cute and heartwarming slice-of-life anime that follows the daily lives of fox spirits who work at a hot spring inn in a mystical town. In the twelfth episode of the first season, we are treated to a heartwarming story that's perfect for the holiday season - Miracle on New Year's Eve.
As the last day of the year approaches, the fox spirits at Konohanatei are preparing for New Year's Eve, a time when they must perform a ritual to welcome the gods into their shrine. Yuzu is tasked with making amazake, a sweet rice drink that's often served during the New Year's celebrations. Even though she's not confident, she's determined to make the best amazake that she can.
Meanwhile, Ren, a timid new fox spirit, is feeling anxious about her first New Year's Eve at Konohanatei. She's worried that she won't be able to perform the ritual properly and indulge in all the celebrations. But her fellow fox spirits make sure to reassure her and teach her the ropes.
As the day progresses, a heavy snowfall blankets the town, making it difficult for guests to arrive at the inn. But the fox spirits don't let this dampen their spirits. They take the opportunity to have their own little party, complete with a festive meal and plenty of sake. It's heartwarming to see how much they care for each other and how they've become a little family in their own right.
However, the mood takes a somber turn when a group of travelers, who had been planning to spend New Year's Eve at the inn, arrive distraught. They had lost one of their group members in the snowstorm and are grieving his loss on what was supposed to be a joyous occasion. The fox spirits do their best to comfort the group and offer them a place to stay.
As it gets closer to midnight, things take an unexpected turn. This is where I have to be careful not to spoil anything, but I will say that the episode lives up to its name - Miracle on New Year's Eve. It's a touching and heartwarming moment that's sure to leave you with a smile on your face.
Overall, this episode is a great example of what makes Konohana Kitan such a wonderful series - it's a perfect blend of cute and heartwarming moments, mixed with a bit of drama and a touch of mysticism. It's a show that's easy to get invested in, as you can't help but care for the characters and their daily struggles. Miracle on New Year's Eve is a worthy addition to the series and a must-watch for any slice-of-life fan.
